Color Picker Bug in Avid Xpress DV
Avid Xpress DV has an incorrect method of reporting color values to plug-ins compared to other Avid hosts. This caused problems selecting colors with ColorFiX. This is how you could tell if your system had this problem:
- Apply ColorFiX to a segment of color bars.
- In the Select New group, turn on the Key Fill button.
- Use any of the Select Old Color Pickers to select the white or light gray bar.
- Most of the white area should turn black.
- If you have to increase Luma Range or Tolerance > 5 to select white, you may have this bug.
We formerly distributed a special version of ColorFiX (ColorFiXACPB.avx) just for Avid Xpress DV users, with a button that attempted to compensate for this bug.
We have now integrated this fix into the general Windows version of ColorFiX.avx (6 July 2001 and later.) The special version is no longer needed, and because detection of Avid Xpress DV is automatic, no button is seen. If you see this problem, please download and install the latest version of the plug-ins.
Note that, due to Avid's design, the following problems remain:
- There may be some inaccuracy with sequences moved between Avid Xpress DV to other Avid products. If this occurs, please reselect the colors from the image after the sequence is moved.
- Selecting colors on Avid Xpress DV where any of the RGB channels have been clipped at 0 or 255 will produce poor results.
